Before beginning therapy, you can call or email me with any questions you may have to see if we are a good fit. For adults, the first session (intake) is about getting to know you and your background, then developing a set of goals for our work together. The following sessions will focus on these goals or other challenges that may come to the forefront. I encourage a collaborative experience between us. Therapy isn't a one size fits all, so I request and need your feedback for how you feel the work is progressing.
For children under age 12, the first session will often be conducted with only the primary adult(s) in the child's life, so that we can openly discuss history, behaviors, and other sensitive topics without small ears overhearing. Following sessions with young children will often be conducted one on one as the child feels more comfortable. Adult involvement in the sessions or updates will be provided as appropriate.
For pre-teens and teens (12+), the first session is usually conducted with the client and the caregiver(s), then following sessions are conducted one on one.
Therapy is found to be most beneficial for most people at one session per week. Frequency can be increased or decreased based on need and fit for each client. I encourage you to be an active participant in your therapy. After all, this is aimed to benefit you!
